January 6th, 2020

Dear Guardians/Parents & Friends,

Happy New Year and welcome back to school from a long winter break! I am very happy we are at the end of second quarter, and next week, January 19th, begins our third quarter grading period. With that stated, please be mindful that school supplies for the children are beginning to run a little low, as hand sanitizers, paper, pencils, and tissues are used daily in each of the classrooms. Parents, if you would kindly help us foster the in-person learning option by sending your child to school with a few extra school supply items, it would help us maintain sufficient learning supplies for the reminder of the school year.

The last half of this school year may present a few more challenges this time with the threat of dangerous weather, heightened social unrest, along with the ongoing pandemic of the coronavirus. Nevertheless, the God we serve is stronger than any unleashed evil because we continue to overcome by the blood of the lamb, and the power of our righteous testimony (Revelation 12:11). We must remember to stay consistent in our minds that no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), because greater is He [Christ Jesus] that is in us, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4). Please stay encouraged to keep pressing toward a higher standard of excellence. As an extension of your family, we at Sonshine want to offer the After School Program for the remainder of the school year.

Our After School program is a covered expense under the Step Up to Quality school-aged portion of the Title XX program. Sonshine’s After School Program will begin Monday, February 1, 2021, starting at 3:15PM and ending at 6:00PM. The daily cost of this program is $11.20 and private pay arrangements are available. This program offers the following: a healthy snack, Homework Help Focus, Reading and Math tutoring, small student-tutor ratios, and interactive learning. All school aged children ages 3-14 are welcome! FYI: if your child has NOT been picked up by 3:15 PM, they will automatically be enrolled in our After School Program and issued a snack for the day. Additionally, our SCA buses will continue to run its normal routes and will not drop students off after the After School Program.

I appreciate your reading attention and am praying for your child’s continued success here at Sonshine.

In the Service of the King,

Dr. Davina Hicks, MBA, PhD
